posted September 25, 2002

VH1 Classic
“Blondie’s Night of Rapture”
Sunday, September 29
8:00-9:00 P.M. ET

VH1 Classic salutes Blondie, one of the most influential bands of the 80s, with “Blondie’s Night of Rapture,” a full evening of Blondie-themed programming on Sunday, September 29 from 8:00-10:00 p.m. ET.

The special night starts with “Blondie’s Back,” a concert from the band’s 1999 reunion tour that includes live performances of Blondie favorites “Atomic,” “Call Me,” “Dreaming,” “One Way Or Another” and their successful comeback single “Maria.”

The one-hour concert is followed at 9:00 p.m. by classic Blondie videos that helped transform the American music scene including “Rapture,” which featured most Americans’ first taste of “rapping,” the artful blend of new wave and disco in “Heart of Glass” and the #1 reggae-beat hit “Tide Is High.”

The evening will also feature snippets of a recent interview with Debbie Harry and Chris Stein in the new VH1 Classic studio in New York City. The pair discusses the lasting influence of Blondie’s music, their early days in New York’s punk rock scene, their upcoming greatest hits package, and the new album they are currently working on.
