in this odd hotel room on the gulf coast, Biloxi Mississippi, its quite hot out here, the room is on a corner of the hotel and ive got a great view of the horizon, the gulf stretching out into dark lightning filled clouds as a storm rolls up... tonight we've got a show downstairs off the casino... this place is fantastic in its simple dull decadence, its really Babylon... with my brain more and more focused on a kind of world view its just amazingly insane to see a huge room full of people sitting around dulled out of their minds busily putting vast sums of money into machines... in a way its even weirder here than vegas since there is none of the rowdyness or surrounding vice and sin related conditions that for me oddly justify the way vegas is... the conservatism here feels wildly out of place... in the mens bathroom downstairs theres a damn syringe/medical waste disposal on the wall, when i asked if there were really that many junkies here i was told that its there as a result of all the old people who frequent the casino, many of whom are diabetic... down the road from the casinos is the home of jefferson davis now hidden away behind a big new library and museum of the confederacy, i could only imagine what a beautiful place this was 2-300 years ago before the road along the "strip" (beach) here was filled with motorised vehicles and tacky t-shirt stands
barry had been travelling around to some of the shows and must have gotten back home since i suddenly got 70 or so messages from fans (he forwards them all from the site) everyone has been very positive about the shows, as i said i've been really enjoying them and im pleased that we seem to be connecting with the audiences even though we're not doing the most obvious set...
thats about all for now, i mostly wanted to thank everyone for the nice reviews youve all been sending... mostly we hustle into the bus after shows and drive to the next gig, some of the drives are over ten hours, chicago to virginia was about 15, so thanks again for being understanding about autographs etc...( that reminds me our bus driver HOOT is a fantastic character, he's just turned 67 i think, was a country and western drummer, played with hank williams etc etc and is accompanied by his wife ANGIE who is some thirty years younger, they are of course referred to as "hoot'an'angie", Hoot was married something like six times)
        over and out
